Highlanders
Spiscy
Polish Spisz highlanders inhabit fifteen villages located between the man-made Lake Czorsztyn and River Białka, including Łapsze Niżne, Niedzica, Kacwin, Trybsz, Frydman and Jurgów. Most of the Spisz region (95%) is part of Slovakia today, the local folk culture visibly infiltrated with six centuries of Hungarian reign.

The Spisz highlander folk costume comes in three varieties: Trybsz, Kacwin and Jurgów. Multiple traditions have been kept alive: until this day, you can meet a bymbniorz (drum-carrying town crier) in Niedzica, “walking the horse” a major event towards the end of the carnival season. Spisz is also famous for sypańce – granaries typical for the region, an architectonic curio to be seen in Kacwin.
